Warm greetings from the vibrant heart of the Ayuwa’si Industrial Zone, where some of the world’s best artists and artisans have been making their mark on the landscape of commerce since April of 2009. I hope that this day is treating you well, and that you and your dear ones are feeling well, creative, prosperous and loved.

My name is Suzy Nees, and I am writing to invite you to visit this exceptional place at your earliest convenience to find out whether it might be suitable for you as one of your studio facilities.

I know that an industrial zone may not sound like a terribly appealing place to create your artwork, but the industry here is a very unique one. You see, in the Ayuwa’si Industrial Zone, we build new paradigms instead of smokestacks and assembly lines. Our workers earn food, shelter and art supplies instead of access to plague-driven currencies. And in place of meaningless gizmos, ugly inventions, and furnishings destined for landfills, we churn out well-lived Moments here, along with a functional sculpture or two.

I am certain that you will find our production team here to be among the most helpful, well-educated folks you will ever meet. We know a great deal about the functional sculpture business, and we are well versed in the “Wovoka was right” approach to monument creation. Have I mentioned our proximity to the world’s largest open-faced granite quarry?

Leonard Peltier-sensei, I appreciate your taking the time to read this missive, and hope that the gears of your idea machine are humming by now, just like the whir of a diamond saw re-sculpting some poorly made “landmark”. Hello everyone,

Hope your day has been a happy one so far. And I hope you have had a good well-deserved breakfast. If you have not, I apologize for failing to make the Ayuwa'si Holocaust Museum robust enough to serve your personal anti-apocalypse needs. Our opera is doing its best to ensure that everyone's well-deserved breakfast needs are being met, and that apocalypse vendors like the ones that made you skip breakfast today will cease and desist with their nefarious activities.

Some of you may know that I got a pinata for my birthday this year. "Pinny" has become a great addition to our food security team here, as he keeps a patient watch over the Lair and its occupants while lightening the mood in a way that only he can. On the day I celebrated surviving four decades on this Earth, Pinny escaped a needless destruction and found safe shelter in a nearby barn.

Thank goodness I intervened! The Bear Magic fortunes have increased exponentially since Pinny began his work here, and a payout will be ready soon to all Bear Magic hockey team members. Hello my relations,

Hope you are having a beautiful day this 7-4. Things here are fine. The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, our takoja is at peace and everyone here has had a well-deserved good breakfast. Hopefully, your takoja is enjoying a similar morning.

As many of you may already know, today is the grand opening of the Ayuwa’si Holocaust museum, and to celebrate this occasion our family has collected an array of artistic works with more Ayuwa’si firepower than the most extravagant hanabi display imaginable.

Trial by Ayuwa’si Fire, the opera that documents the creation of these works, will be presented for the first time today in the Ayuwa’si Industrial Zone as a FREE thank you gift from my family to our community to express our appreciation for its support and good wishes.

If you live too far away from Ayuwa’si to witness this event personally, don’t despair…the opera has a built-in function designed to help folks like you feel like Ayuwa’si itself has arrived at your doorstep.

If you do not find our theatre before dawn tomorrow, please don’t give up on seeing its latest production. The creation and presentation of artistic works as diverse and stunning as those featured in Trial by Ayuwa’si Fire requires time, natural resources, and lots and lots of exorcism supplies. Also, some of the participating artists have not yet been made aware of their role in our family production, but this will happen in due time.

While you are waiting to witness this unique pageant of talent and good intentions, please feel free to join the growing contingent of volunteers who are helping to re-stock our production team’s exorcism supply kit, which is always in need of replenishment. As a volunteer on this production, your donated exorcism supplies will be converted into delicious snaques etc. and served to you personally at a Snaque Shaque near you just as soon as each and every participating Trial by Ayuwa’si Fire artist has enjoyed a good breakfast as compensation for their artistry.

If you are at a loss for ideas about how you can donate exorcism supplies to our production team, here are a few hints.

-Exorcism supplies can be new or used
- Maps, Bibles, quit-claim deeds and flutes are all suitable as exorcism tools
-Homemade “Secession, not hate” flags, Traces Library inheritance claim tickets, and pictures of the Blue Hole are ideal for purposes of exorcism

Hello my relations,

Hope you are all doing well and feeling spry, un-defiled, creative and safe.

Those of you who are in the process of cramming for exams at the Ayuwa'si Academy of Ninjutsu are extended a special set of wishes for health and happiness. Your studies are important to our Nation, and your diligence and efforts are vastly appreciated.

I am getting some advice now and then that I need to take a break from my own training in this field of study, since this education can be a harrowing, and even nauseating, experience at times.

Although I do not disagree with this sentiment, I fail to see a window of opportunity in which to make use of such advice. Terrorism against our Nation is at a turning point in many ways, since evil acts against our people have reached such staggering proportions that evildoers themselves are showing signs of deep exhaustion as a result of their exposure to visibility and traumatizing incidents.

Terrorism and duplicity are difficult, dangerous, mind-warping tasks, and as good farmland keeps getting scooped up for use by non-terrorists, the odds keep getting slimmer and slimmer that bad people will enjoy good breakfasts in the days and years to come. It is my firm belief that once the good breakfast thing goes away permanently for these people, nutritional science and well-deserved nightmares will not take long to reclaim what is left of the enemy's morale and stamina.

I leave you today with an excerpt from Sun Tzu's The Art of War, in the hopes that it will cheer and inspire you, and enable you to successfully defend your own takoja from evil, in all its various disguises.

Takai, ne, ethnic cleansing wa!

Dear friends & readers,

Hope you are all doing well. Many thanks to all of you who have helped my family and I through our recent adventures. Despite an assortment of challenges to their safety and well-being, Cleo, Dracola, Ninja, Princess and Nuti the Goldfish are all doing well, thanks to your support and encouragement.

Sadly, however, Nuti lost her partner, Rati the Goldfish, yesterday. And although nothing about Rati’s passing suggests that racially motivated foul play has occurred, Nuti’s loss should give us all good reason to reflect on the vast expensive-ness and the toxic effects of ethnic cleansing in all its forms and disguises.

Nuti’s namesake is a silly-looking critter I drew many years ago. An eyeball floats in space in front of her, bringing to mind one way in which the Japanese express the concept of sticker shock. “Your eyeballs will out,” my teacher used to say when describing something incredibly “takai” (expensive).

In memory of innocent beings like Rati, and in celebration of those that survive him, our little patch of the Romany Rez in Katuah is currently busy examining, through writings and artwork, the out-of-body eyeball phenomenon as it relates to the evils of ethnic cleansing. I hope you will join us here soon to help co-create this body of work so that Rezidents like Rati can be properly mourned when they pass, and by this I mean that their passing will be framed within a sober awareness of the fact that many of us on Earth still live in a Holocaust-shaped world.

Buried radioactive waste is sometimes marked with glyphs as a way of providing language-independent instructions to future generations about embedded hazards within their world…but could it be that this practice would be put to much better use in documenting the half-life of ethnic cleansing? Great waves of suffering, churned out by tides of Holocaust denial, suggest to me that in Katuah, at least, there is no time like the present to scrutinize past acts of violence and genocide for clues about creating a functional and harmonious future.

Dear Willie Nelson-sensei,

Happy 4-19! And much Aloha from the warm heart of Ayuwasi's busy industrial district, where I have been sent on an important Bear Magic Hockey Team bank mission: Eradicating Schwag from planet Earth. My teammates in this effort are the workers of the AIZ, the Ayuwa'si Industrial Zone, a realm that was born this very morning.

Some folks out there might be asking why folks in Ayuwa'si have chosen a peaceful Sunday morning in one of Earth's most gorgeous places to create an industrial zone which is focused on ridding the planet of sucky brown cannabis.

Sucky brown cannabis, in our minds, represents just a small portion of the Schwag industry iceberg, so our mission is not as simple as getting rid of this sort of pollution. Schwag, for the purposes of the Ayuwa'si Industrial Zone, is defined as any sucky work or product, and is not a term that is only applied to low grade cannabis.

This means that for us, fighting the Schwag industry is highly complex pursuit which demands much of its warriors, including a deep understanding of how any product, agricultural or otherwise, that is created un-mindfully and without compassion has the potential to unleash tsunami after tsunami of misery and violence.

That being said, I should mention that a recent newspaper article brought in from the Big World has spurred many of us to action in reducing the harm caused by Schwag cannabis trading between Mexico and the United States. Stories of decapitations, communities lost to gangs, and violence against law enforcement have scared the apathy right out of us, and we now have an industrial zone to prove it.

I sure wish you could be here with us today in the AIZ to spend your Bear Magic realty credits and to witness history in the making, but folks here are planning to make history every day for many days to come so please don't be too miffed at them for not giving you a heads-up about the big opening ceremony this morning.

You should also know that an honorary table was set for you and your creative team at the company cafe's breakfast celebration this morning, so anyone that asks should be informed that you and your teammates are VERY important around here and have been so right from the start. If anyone doubts this please have them call my office to make arrangements to see the gigantic "right to farm" pennants that were lovingly set in storage this morning after the Bear Magic team cleaned the breakfast table they festooned.

Here in Ayuwa'si, Sunday is considered by many to be a super-lucky day and a great time of the week to dig up Scripture with just the perfect amount of zing in it to scare the you-know-what out of Schwag manufacturers and other nefarious characters. Warm greetings from the vibrant heart of Katuah! I hope that this communique reaches you in time to wish you and all your relations a very blessed 2-14.

Rumor has it that one of those naughty Bear Magic hockey players helped themselves to my passwords a short while ago to post a missive in which they begged you for ikigai etc.

Willie Nelson-sensei, did you feed those bears ikigai? They are pro beggars, so I am not scolding you; as their certified nutritionist I simply need to know what you gave them. They are going absolutely bonkers today (in a good way) and their ikigai levels are off the charts. If these critters keep absorbing ambient ikigai there is no telling how many hockey pennants they might win. In situations like this I am VERY glad I have chosen to work as the Bear Magic team's certified nutritionist and not the pennant manager. Managing those pennants is a hockey game in itself, sometimes.

(If the Bears are just feeling this way due to recent sequestration from "The Internet", please feel free to share this info with me also so that I can note that in our files.)

Now I really need to get down to business so I hope you will pardon any accidental brusque-ness. A VERY special lady named Janet might be visiting Katuah soon and she is a fan of your music and I owe her a mighty big favor as she recently help the team upgrade to some incredibly luxurious headquarters.

Also a VERY special doggy may be coming home soon, much to the potential delight of his tribe. "Orson", who left his home on Blue Springs road on 12-24-09, seems to have set himself up with a makeshift lair close to the Boy Scout Land around the Sacred Springs in Ayuwa'si. His gorgeous, medium length black fur, slightly curled tail, and trademark white chest patch have all been noted by eyewitnesses in the area. Dare we hope that this beloved son of Katuah will be able to join us on the Detsanunli this 2-17? I can hardly think of it without shedding an ikigai-rich tear. Our Aunti is the most important thing in the picture right now.

We would not beg if we did not have to, but our Nation is in great danger so please, have your People call our People to get you and your healing team on the next Air Katuah flight to Ayuwa’si. Our Aunti might be dying of a broken heart, and none of the markets here sell the medicine that can keep her among the living.

Please, Nelson-sensei, come sing our Aunti the beautiful song you wrote for her just a bit ago to un-break her heart. Hello! I just wanted to clarify a few items from yesterday's post, and get in touch with you as to how many folks we will be needing to feed and re-hydrate when the Honeysuckle Rose drifts into the squishy yet ever-so-solid wall we have built to welcome her when she begins descending into the cradle of Katuah.

Yes, the wall I promised you is already in place! I don't know how it happened, but Aunti's heart got mended all of a sudden yesterday, and her household, along with her ikigai mill, got up and running again, and the next thing you knew a massive wall of What We Do Best Here went up.

But I digress. My main reason for writing to you today is to comment on my "old and crinkly" comment of yesterday, since I am concerned about it being misconstrued to mean that "old and crinkly" equals "ugly, un-love-able, and unworthy of jealousy".

For the record, I would like to say right now that Old is awesome, and crinkles are beautiful. Anybody who disputes this should just reflect on Katuah! Every year, and every day, young men and old become smitten anew with this elegant lady, whose charm is in no small part due to her great elder-ness as well as her ultra-crinkled topography.

And as far as crinkles on humans goes...sure, not everyone takes care to collect crinkles in a manner which will ensure that memories of smiles, and not frowns, are traced on the face, but for the most part, no crinkle is a bad one if the owner regards it as a sort of a trophy upon which the word

Now I would like to clarify one last thing. And that has to do with the way I signed my missive yesterday:

The good news about Nantoka the Elder and her ikigai profile is that if you should decide to help her out this morning by writing the ultimate Country and Western Anti-Holocaust Song, you will probably fix many, many more hearts than just one.

Aunti N. has a heart whose shape and size is rather typical of persons from Katuah. Writing her a song this morning, or perhaps later this afternoon, just might inject enough ikigai into this realm to ensure that by the time the Honeysuckle Rose crosses into Katuah this spring, she will run smack into a solid wall of What We Do Best Here.

Obviously, I do not possess the resources or strength to make good on this promise all by myself, but I have great faith in your ability to make music which will kick-start the great ikigai machine that is our Aunti Nantoka's household by putting a smile on the dear old lady's face. And once our Aunti's house is running like a top, it is all but impossible for it to churn out What We Do Best in inconceivable quantities.

Perhaps you are worried that the media will begin to speculate as to your romantic connections to Aunti N if you should write her a song. Now, if I were the most powerful artist in TX I would be utterly un-worried about crap like that. But the sad reality is that stupid rumors like those can really hurt, and cause mistrust, when they reach the ears of the artist's Valentine. Happy 12-05-08. Today brings a mixed bag of news from our realm.

First the possibly unpleasant news: Due to a potential scheduling conflict, your tribe's Snaque Shaque meal on (date censored) might need to be served just a bit earlier or later than expected. I have committed to a fiscal responsibility education event which, as it turns out, may be happening at the exact time that I had been planning to serve Thanksgiving 2.0 to your team.

If this commitment was not directly linked to the United States judicial system, I would of course blow it off in a heartbeat, but such is not the case. You see, I am in the process of filing for bankruptcy in the United States courts, and this process requires me to follow certain procedures, including taking a special course in managing what remains of my financial resources. Hopefully, I will be able to take this class about a month before the Thanksgiving 2.0 event I have been planning for your tribe, but if this class is full I seem to have only one other option for completing it: attending class on (time and date censored), just when I had hoped to be sharing a toast to your health with our tribes and a bottle of Dogs on Trucks Expensive Champagne.

As of yet the Snaque Shaque has not appointed an assistant manager, so it is forced to close its "doors" when I am not personally available to manage its kitchens and tables. I am extremely sorry to bring you this news, and hope sincerely that in the days and weeks to come I will be able to amend it. The first wonderful piece of news is that our great friend and living cultural treasure Mitsunori Koike-sensei is okay, and will be returning to his lair in Hara Village shortly. So, please do not feel obliged to check in on him via the Harmony Arts Foundation or the Hannoki Studio. I spoke with a Hannoki Studio associate at around 11 pm Katuah time last night, and learned the above from a reliable source.

The second wonderful piece of news has to do with your upcoming performances in Katuah: Your stages are getting warmer by the day, as folks in Katuah continue to do battle with the culture-hating demons known to haunt the borders of this realm. Last night, for example, I had the honor of meeting Pastor Jay & Associates, who will share their skills in acting and stagecraft with the public tomorrow and Thursday in a theatrical piece whose content is extremely well suited to folks who are suffering from the effects of the lending industry apocalypse.

Other upcoming events likely to set a festive mood for your performances in Katuah this spring include a December 6 performance by the Alliens in Floyd, a show I would love to see myself had I not already pledged to help with a Snaque Shaque event to honor Pastor Jay & Associates on that same date.

This mention of the Snaque Shaque brings me to a third wonderful piece of news: Among Snaque Shaque patrons and associates, there were no known casualties yesterday as a result of terrorist acts, making our safety record a perfect one yet again. And although I cannot provide you with scientific data to support this claim, I hope that you will accept it as legitimate enough proof that the Snaque Shaque's policies of proactive failure to senselessly beat up on culture are working as a powerful anti-terror weapon.

Many of us here have a great appreciation for your work as a conservator of functional culture, and on behalf of myself and all these people I would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you.

My name is Suzy Nees and I am the head manager of the Snaque Shaque. This establishment has served numerous famous and talented individuals like yourself, and since the Snaque Shaque operates on a routine basis within range of your early spring tour this year, please allow me to extend to you and your entourage a most sincere welcome to enjoy, free of charge, a Thanksgiving 2.0 meal with our tribe.

There are few kanemochi* people among our tribe, so it is doubtful that we will be able to make a very large dent in your ticket sales. However, I hope very earnestly that when our tribes meet up, they will both feel richer, more un-persecuted, and much more well-fed, thanks to the Magical Snaque Shaque.

I would love to give you specific details which would allow you to find the Thanksgiving 2.0 table that is being set for your tribe, but unfortunately, the existence of resource-snarfing demons in regions which border Katuah makes the Snaque Shaque's cloaking device a must, and I cannot divulge more than a few details to you at this time as to the Snaque Shaque's physical appearance. However, please feel free to inform your entourage that if they should spot a gigantic pinata in the shape of a tearful helicopter or bank when visiting this sacred realm, by all means they should feel free to take hold of something stout and heavy and smash that mofo to pieces. This will get the Snaque Shaque party rolling big time.

Food security concerns and a strict privacy policy prevent me from divulging many details about the luminaries who might be sharing a table with you and your entourage early this spring, but here are a few discreet hints:

1. When the Alliens were relaxing backstage with friends and loved ones after their Earth-shaking performance at the 2008 Floyd Fest, the Snaque Shaque was there with cheese, apples, homebrew and warm congratulations.

2. Last summer, the Snaque Shaque prepared dinner for the Black Twig Pickers to prep them for one of their amazing performances at the Floyd Country Store.

3. World famous monumental sculptor Mitsunori Koike was the host of the very first Thanksgiving 2.0 meal ever provided by the Snaque Shaque. The spaghetti breakfast Mr. Koike hosted on that morning nearly twenty years ago has launched an educational journey in cultural conservation that has had numerous far-reaching effects which span many continents.

This detail brings me to a somewhat more sober topic: the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. I must inform you that when I first got it in my head to write you this missive, it was November 27, 2008. At that time I was highly concerned about the tragedy in Mumbai but it took me a minute to realize that there was a very good chance that our dear friend and living cultural treasure Mr. Koike was in fact in Mumbai as a guest of the Harmony Arts Foundation.

Several anguished days and many frantic telephone calls later, I was able to learn that Mr. Koike was unharmed by the attacks, although my suspicions that he was in Mumbai were confirmed.

Today is the first day that I have felt un-anguished enough to finish my missive to you, as the loss of Mr. Koike would be an enormous blow to the world and our tribe. I still have yet to communicate directly with this great hero of the Snaque Shaque to get verification of his safety and details of his condition. I know that as a fellow conservator of functional culture, you would go to great lengths to see to the well-being of someone like Koike-sensei, who has virtually disappeared to me due to the fact that as the humble unpaid manager of the Snaque Shaque I do not have phone service which will allow me to make international calls.

For this reason, I wonder if I might make a small request of you: to contact the Hannoki Studio and/or the Harmony Arts Foundation to get details on his condition and to invite him (and his entourage) to the big Thanksgiving 2.0 event happening early this spring in Katuah.

If you do not have the ability or desire to do so, I will certainly understand since this might seem like an odd request. Your choice in this matter will of course have no bearing on the invitations just extended to you and your tribe, although I should mention that Mr. Koike's pinatas would undoubtedly be an extremely festive and dramatic addition to this spring's events in Katuah.

it is a beautiful day here, hope you are hanging in there.

I am trying to contain my disgust with the local headlines these days. For example, I feel that "Morva gets death" is a misleading, and sensationalist, headline.

this is an inaccurate and lurid way to let the public know that a Montgomery County, Virginia governing body just handed down, with the help of nine citizens, an execution order to punish Will Morva for his crimes.

this is a very, very different thing than "getting" death. for example, now that this judgment has been handed down, an automatic appeal process has begun.

people really need to be more considerate of the people that care about Will Morva's future, like his momma, and his editors, and his wranglers and so forth. putting your name on a headline like the one I just mentioned is a good way to never find out what it's like to enjoy Thanksgiving 2.0 in the Traces library on Will Morva's dime.

things here are OK, I assume; I do not know of any landslides, floods, avalanches, or executions in progress, although I am extremely concerned about the possibility that W. Morva might be executed as a result of his actions during his attempt to escape custody and reach the forests of Katuah. this, as I understand it, was his goal on the day he entered the Montgomery County, Virginia hospital for treatment.

words cannot express how much sorrow I feel about all the lives that have been lost recently in the shadow of Brush sama. but so-called "capital punishment" (I consider this phrase to be a euphemism for execution) in the case of W. Morva will do nothing to bring back these souls to the realm of the living. so to me, headlines that speculate about whether or not Will is going to get the "death penalty" strike me as a sickening wake-up call as to our culture's general numbness to murder.

killing prisoners to punish them greatly is a terrible idea. and giving any representative of the Imprisonment Industry the idea that you think it is OK merely increases the state's ability to extend its influence and frighten the public. so why encourage, or permit it at all?

the Coffee Access fairies have been consistently good to me as of late, as have their kinfolk the KILI Radio Access fairies.

Feb. 25 will mark the date of a walk and a ride to celebrate the station's birthday.

so, I have been sharing a bit of fairy lore recently, and thought I would give you a couple of book suggestions that would help you build on your current fairy lore knowledge base.

the first is by Jeremiah Curtin and it is called Tales of the Fairies and of the Ghost World.

the second is Myths of the Cherokee by James Mooney, a book which some rogue Shouseki digitizer unsuccessfully tried to swipe from the Deer Haven studios late last year. as far as I know the librarian got less than a slap on the wrist for this crime but non-Shouseki digitizing entities should be advised that the same rules do not apply to those persons who consider themselves to be above the law when it comes to helping themselves to digital fac-similes of a Shouseki person's personal data.

anyway the book is there still, as far as I know, and contains EXTREMELY fascinating tales of giant leeches, semi-visible warriors that live inside mountains, dancing panthers that talk and much, much more...including stories about a tiny race of people that lived inside the realm known as Katúah before the Cherokee arrived.

apparently the tiny white folks were forced out of their homes in the mountains by the Cherokee, who thought they were weird. before they left, they warned the Cherokee not to cross a certain river because they would be killed by a giant leech.

were these tiny people in fact fairies who were trying to keep the hapless Cherokee from contact with what would later become the District of Columbia? can the depigmented pre-Katúah people and the Cherokee work out their past differences so that peace and harmony can be attained in this realm? can they work together so that no Shouseki people, or anyone, for that matter, will wind up as mere leech food?

inquiring minds want to know. and they sure would like to get a hold of that book again.

hope you had an absolutely wonderful 01-01-08 yesterday, it was a truly amazing one in Ayuwa'si.

below is a notice from the Lakotah regarding the title disputes they have been bringing forth recently. folks who have found their homesteads to be within disputed areas are offered specific language in the notice below as to the Lakotah's reluctance to make this title dispute issue into a problem which will slump onto the shoulders of the residents of the United States.

might I make a real property management suggestion here? there are lots and lots of ways clever Lakotah non-haters can creatively re-value the worth of their homestead by using this issue as a way of really looking at whether or not "owning" the land is a good deal at all in the first place.

the holes that have been left in most United States residents' understanding of the gravity of these and other treaty violations as a result of federally funded public schooling make it difficult for many people to see (at least right now) why it is so critical that North American residents start facing these treaty violation issues with a fresh approach.

the old approach was ignoring the outright slaughter, pure and simple, that went into the creation of what is now called the United States. because United States public schools do not deal with educating the public appropriately about these issues, the nasty diet we are left with as a culture is apartheid, bad ju-ju, and misery.

it behooves all katuahnet residents to understand that the realm they are living in has shared borders with some pretty darn barbaric people over the years; people that make the Lending Industry look like a walk in the park.

and when I say barbaric I do not mean, the manners you have when you dump two fistfuls of Cheez-Its on top of a bowl of farm-fresh rooster noodle soup.

why am I telling you all this? to cheer you up in case you are sad or panicked this 01-02-08. if you have done your water quality awareness homework you have nothing at all to panic about. I promise. The Ama'yine'hi swarmed Ayuwa'si yesterday to ensure its continued autonomy, and if you play your cards you might get to hang out with them at the Lair and trade ninja jokes etc. during the fair water trade summit this spring. playing Zombie Possum from Hell may be the way to go if these two possum personas do not provide adequate proof to Lending Industry representatives that usury and Hell go together like peanut butter and jelly.

the Dead Possum thing, ever the classic with folks who are being abused by the Lending Industry, is not that advisable in my opinion since it provides too much temptation for good people to hole up and be depressed and think about killing themselves for real.

you were not created to serve as asphalt on the infrastructure that greed built. nor was any other living thing. remember that any time you might be feeling desperate and alone.

Fight of flight? the big choice in escaping cultural desertification

things here are fine, the Trail of No Tears is fully operational, except for the ikigai generator and the karaoke gizmo, but I am working on this.

a five-day supply Trail of No Tears jokes is being added soon to the Trail as a special remedy for those who could use a good pee-in-your-pants laugh at the expense of The Man. I know that these are hard times for many, and if you are needing these Trail options pretty badly I hope you can hang in there until can get these elements fixed.

in the meantime I thought I would write a little bit today about cultural desertification, in the hopes that it might help someone out there make a wise choice in escaping it, so they don't have to depend on computers, or anything else, to keep them from crying, and that the failure to cry will just come naturally.

without going into too much detail, the part of beautiful Katuah where I dwell is close to a place where the cultural desertification gremlins are much too close and ubiquitious for comfort. Barring a last-minute intervention from the Nunnehi, fighting the gremlins in certain areas of this place would probably take too much energy, ikigai, and sanity for me to properly enjoy the fruits of my labor.

plus, my Roma and hobo ancestry, along with my stuff-less-ness, have provided me with a wealth of skills with which to evade these gremlins. so, flight seemed the obvious answer to me when I realized the scope of the cultural desertification happening in this part of North America... but then I started thinking, what I have the choice to flee and fight?

and then I started thinking, what about those Nunnehi odds? then I started wondering if a two-pronged approach to this cultural desertification thing could not be managed.

anyway just a few thoughts for this wintry Saturday. hope they are of some use to you. and I hope you will have a beautiful, non-culturally-desertified weekend.

I am putting together some info that will help citizens quickly inform themselves of the issues surrounding FERC project #2210, AKA the Smith Mountain Lake

Once upon a time I enjoyed swimming in this lake. I wouldn't put my little toe in it now. if the fecal coliform doesn't get you, the bad ju-ju will.

how sad am I that this AEP profit pool actually serves as a public reservoir as well? very sad.

if you think that NOW is a good time to hold AEP accountable for its natural and human resource management policies at the Smith Mountain hydropower project, you are either on top on your game as a seeker of discreetly presented information, or you have great intuition, because an important clock started ticking at Smith Mountain on November 1, 2007. On that day AEP issued a preliminary licensing proposal (PLP) to renew its license to operate the dam at Smith Mountain.

FERC, the Federal Energy Regulation Commission, will accept public input about this proposal up to three months after the Nov. 1, when the PLP was issued.

smithmtn.com is the fun website where AEP publishes news on their re-licensing proposal. if the PDF associated with this PLP was not meant to bore the reader to tears, it doesn't show. so I am sifting through this info to find relevant stuff on the ways this project impacts, and has impacted, communities in this region and around the globe. you might cry when you read about the fish that die when water pressure shifts cause them body trauma, but at least you will not be crying tears of boredom.

now don't get me wrong - I am not looking to see the dam shut down, at least in light of the information I have now. the drowning of Smith Mountain Valley cannot be un-done, so it would not make very much sense to me to waste all the sacrifices that were made by area communities to enable this source of energy independence to exist.

I do, however, feel like it is an appropriate time to give FERC and the AEP a bit of a shopping list that includes stuff like...

- reservoir water that does not taste like gas, and transmit giardia and tapeworm.

- suitable acknowledgement and recompense for the sacrifices made by native peoples and members of preexisting communities when their churches, burial sites, and Lord knows what else got inundated

- resource management policies that do more than just say, 'our environmental studies have concluded that there is not that much nature to manage at the project, so we are not going to worry about it'.

- real answers and solutions for home and land owners who thought they were making a smart investment when they purchased property along the shores of the impoundment project at Smith Mountain

- Etc.

AEP is licensed to operate the Smith Mountain Project by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The initial license term was for fifty years. In 1998, AEP began the process of relicensing which should be complete in 2009. The new license term may be up to fifty years.
