Prison construction etc. news for January 30

hi everyone, hope you are well.

I just read the Floyd Press January 25 edition, it contains an article by Liza Field which I think is extremely good. She speaks about new prison construction being planned on the New River in Grayson County. It is a biting, eloquent article which is highly relevant to anyone who wonders how The Economy came to be the creature it is at this point.

If you would like to learn more about this story, or if you would like to speak into the audiopark.org amplification mechanism about this issue please stay tuned.

bye, thanks for reading. have a beautiful day.

new blogger is dumb

Hi everyone,

Just in case someone is wondering, here is what I think of the enforced "upgrade" to Nouveau Blogger: It's Dumb! Lots more hassles, stupid bugs, and I really don't like the Google ID thing.

"It's a jungle out there" - Yeah, right! Wouldn't that be nice.

Hi all

Hope you are well

And I hope you are filled with the spirit of ikigai etc., even if you are one of those theoretical out-of-work people in the New River Valley. Or one of those people who are praying for a way to get free of the nightmare from which their current paycheck originates.

If this is the case for you, please do not be discouraged! The NRV job market is not your fault. At the moment I have no better advice for you but I do have three other resources to share which you which may be of help. One is the story of James the lost parakeet, who wishes very much that it really was a jungle out there, because jungles are nice, and contain life, and places to nest, and jungles provide food and sustenance and ikigai, whereas "out there" is more like the surface of the moon, minus the sense of tranquility and quiet.

The second resource I have to share is ikigai.org, which is nothing much right now but a few photos and some Hank Williams lyrics but in my mind it exists to provide a means for people to report missing and stolen ikigai.

The third resource is a bit of knowledge which just might save you, or someone you love, or someone you don't know, from literal starvation and/or debilitating illness.

I am going to go prepare these resources now and hope in the interim that you will be well. Try not to worry too much. Remember that Our Friends the Mycelium People will happily reclaim you and welcome you home with open hyphae soon enough, and they won't even ask you for a resume or a cup of your urine. And you won't have to buy a horrible ill-fitting suit at the mall to go meet them, either.

They will just say, oh, hello, friend! Thank you for being here! We missed you so much! You are just in time for supper!

roanoke.com job posting page - can it get any worse?

Hi folks

Please be patient - You may be in for a bit of a rant here, and I will try to be as kind as I can since I really like the Roanoke Times print version because they are one of the first newspapers I remember who had the guts to talk about mountaintop removal. And yet. I absolutely must speak up about the horribleness of the job posting page on roanoke.com.

I might not be so critical about it if the target audience was a different demographic. As it is, though, people are there looking for a job in Southwest Virginia, which is a brutal thing by itself, so, the way I see it, don't demoralize them any more than you need to.

Here is what the roanoke.com job posting page says to me:

Hi Friend!!!! You like noise, right? Good thing you are here to experience noise. Check out our beating heart video, isn't it cool! We think so. We hope you noticed the automatic audio, too! Isn't the future cool? WOW WE ARE SLICK! Wait! Wait! we have more noise and gimmicks. ..lots more...what did you say you were here for?

Then the page crashes.

I am not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing that the roanoke.com job postings are more or less completely inaccessible to me. I am inclined to think that it is a good thing right now since it will be too frustrating to conclude otherwise.

Here is my advice: If you are a job advertiser, or a potential job advertiser on roanoke.com, you may want to think twice about what your money is going toward. Finding skilled and talented folks in this area will be easier if you post your job listings in a somewhat more readable format instead of embedding them in an ugly clown show. (No offense to professional clowns.)
