Call The Governor!

Tell WV Governor Joe Manchin…
... that you stand with Ed Wiley,
...support his walk,
...support the building of a New Marsh Fork Elementary School,
...and that we CAN NOT ALLOW COAL DUST TO POISON THE CHILDREN!

1-888-438-2731 or 1-304-558-6000

Not in West Virginia will we allow coal dust to poison our children
Not in North Carolina will we allow coal dust to poison our children
Not in California will we allow coal dust to poison our children
Not in the United States of America will we allow coal dust to poison our children, or make kids attend schools under faulty sludge impoundments holding 2.8 billion gallons of mountaintop removal waste.

Please take two minutes to tell the governor what you think.

Let him know that there is scientific certainty that these children are being poisoned by chemically treated coal dust, and that this shouldn’t go on a day longer!

hi everyone
hope you are all well

so here we are. a whole year has gone by since Katrina.

things are very different now down in New Orleans, so they say, though I don't trust the news too much on a day like this. compassion and solemn remembrance are beautiful things - until they get spun and re-worked by opportunists who see Christian kindness as just another handy tool for their ugly box of tricks.

here is my personal news cast for today: the forecast calls for heavy lip service from politicians who are eager to craft public sentiment into a vehicle for their own agendas.

I don't wish to sound cynical, so here is a thought that might prevent that: we have, as a nation, done a little bit of wrestling with the demon of racism now, so as long as we don't let that learning experience slip into the ether, we can say that at least some measure of human progress has been made in the year since Katrina.

here's a good way to start working toward that: let's do a little wrestling with the demon of classism now. it's the least we can do to honor those lost in Katrina. And it's the least we can do for 230 young First Class Citizens who are very much alive, thank God, despite living every single day of this past year in the shadow of a sludge-filled, manmade version of Hurricane Katrina, as if they were invisible people.

What excuse do we have for the children at Marsh Fork? What excuse do we have for their parents? What excuse will we give ourselves if the Shumate Sludge dam does ever break?

How will we live with ourselves if the worst really does happen, and we are suddenly forced to fully come to terms with the sickening irony that has existed in Raleigh County, West Virginia for precisely one year today?

ideapark.org in Korean

hi everyone
here is something fun and nifty I just found

http://www.google.com/language_tools

this is a tool to translate web pages into different languages

for example, here is ideapark.org in Korean

(I probably should call the language Bot-Korean, since this is an automatically generated translation which will probably not be anywhere near as elegant as something translated by a human...)

who knows what kind of humorous little errors there might be on this page...anyway I still think it's neat.

I am looking into the accuracy of these translations to see if this is something reliable enough to put in use on some of my sites.

bye, have a great day.
-Suzy

ps. Important Note!!! these page translations are not always viewable in Firefox.

So I went out today looking for the Kanemochi* Hokie to go take his picture but he seems to have disappeared!!!

I am so sad he is gone, he was TOO perfect. (This was the one that was dressed in a pinstripe suit holding a bunch of money.) I have been asking around town to find out where he may have gone but no leads so far.

anyway I hope you are having a very nice day, please take care. If you happen to see the Kanemochi Hokie make sure you get his picture!

From the rousing crowd pleaser "Is it the End or is it the Beginning" to the haunting, thought provoking "Lullaby for Andrea", Bavarian born musician-artist Starroot shows real versatility as a songwriter. She sings and plays accordion, guitar, and harmonica. Walt Flythe plays guitar and flute, and Rick Hall, plays bass guitar.

The concert is from 12 to 3 this Saturday rain or shine, with an open mic from 1-2. Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments and sit in for a jam or take to the stage for a solo. All musical styles are welcome... Gospel to Rock & everything in between.
