Welcome to our community.

Located in the town of Floyd, Virginia, just a few miles north of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Jacksonville Center for the Arts offers a wide variety of arts & cultural activities for visitors and community members, including contemporary & folk art exhibits, educational programs for kids & adults, music and social events throughout the year.

The Jacksonville Center's class schedule offers over 50 classes for 2006. The center has three fully functional studios for pottery, blacksmithing, and glass-working. Lodging is available in an on-site dormitory for our visiting students.

happy springtime
here is Cleo wearing some springtime finery

so the childrens' exhibits are all up at the Jacksonville Center now
they look really great I think

the Blue Mountain School exhibit is in the Creamery
(this is the pottery studio beside the main building)

the New School exhibit is in the dormitory building
(next to the big oak tree)

and Kaily has some exhibit items on display in the SLEC exhibit space
This is a small collection of antique bottles.
Kaily excavated these from a site near Cedar Run in Blacksburg.

The SLEC exhibit space is located in the AECP building
(right next to the wind tower)

The picnic tomorrow will be rain or shine so hope to see you there!

You are invited to a community picnic and Earth Day celebration at the Jacksonville Center in Floyd, Virginia on Saturday, April 22. This is a free event, and all are welcome!

Please call the Jacksonville Center at (540) 745-2784 for more information on this event. Things to bring: picnic items, music instruments, lawn seating, friends!

Events planned so far for this day include - An open house at the SLEC (Sustainable Living Education Center) - art reception for the spring exhibit at Traces - lawn games - music under the oak tree, featuring Billy Miller at 2 pm and Snake Hollow String Band at 4 pm - faerie house building workshop with Patricia & Cori Woodruff (please see the Jacksonville Center website at http://www.jacksonvillecenter.org for details on this class)

other things to see at the Jacksonville Center on April 22: - a recycled art exhibit in the Hayloft - an exhibit of work by students from the Blacksburg New School and the Blue Mountain School in Floyd - Leon Davis will be leading a work day to help complete the Jacksonville Center's straw bale building - (?) ...please contact the Jacksonville Center if you are interested in helping to add to the April 22 festivities.

Black Diamonds: a film on mountaintop removal

loop news for Sunday, April 9 - Black Diamonds, a documentary film about mountaintop removal coal mining, will premiere in Virginia on Wednesday, April 12 at 7 pm on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg. This film will be shown in room 1870 in Litton Reeves Hall off West Campus Drive on the Virginia Tech campus.

ideapark.org loop news for April 1, 2006 - the Traces art space & reading room will be featuring work by Stephanie Gapinski, Melody Wolfe Thomas, and Billy Miller from now until June 1, 2006. This collection includes music, ceramics, photographic manipulations and bamboo flutes. Also on display at Traces: sculpture & illustration by Suzy Nees; reading materials related to the conservation of culture and resources.

A reception for the Traces spring exhibit will be held at the gallery from 3 to 5 pm on Saturday, April 22. All are welcome!
